Cooking Tips
In all the years feeding my family elk meat, I have found the following tips to be especially helpful when cooking with elk:Elk Burger
Elk burger can be substituted for ground beef in any recipe. If making elk burgers, adding a splash of olive oil and mixing it into the burger will keep consistently moist. Add any spices you wish or it's great as is! Cook or grill on medium heat, 5 minutes per side.Elk Roast
Crock pot or slow roasting creates unbeatable flavor and tenderness! Adding some form of moisture such as a cup or two of broth, a can of your favorite soup, or even just water creates a wonderful broth. With any of the above liquids, add your favorite seasonings, dry soup mix, or onion slices if desired.Elk Steak
Best cooked to medium rare but no more than medium. Letting the meat sit in your favorite marinade beforehand enhances the already great flavor and texture. If grilling, baste lightly with olive oil while cooking using medium heat, 5 minutes per side.Sirloin and round steak make wonderful stroganoff and stir-fry! Fondue is also especially delicious with any cut of steak!
